A Bit About Me

Me as a Counsellor

As you may as guessed I’m Charlie. I’m a qualified counsellor and a member with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society. So you can trust that my training is up to national standards, that I work in accordance with a strict code of ethics and in a way that is safe and confidential.

I have worked for two years in a low-cost counselling charity in Sudbury, providing counselling services to those who may not otherwise be able to afford them. But now as I have moved to the lovely town of Maldon, I have transitioned to seeing people privately. Hoping to expand my horizons and experience with all the freedom self-employment provides.

My counselling style

I work in a Pluralistic way, meaning I strongly believe in collaboration between client and counsellor (you and I). This includes agreeing on goals together, deciding on how we work together and which techniques or ways of working would be most suitable for you at any particular time. After all, no one knows you, your life, your needs or your goals better than you do.

I have trained in Person-Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapies and I incorporate all of them into my way of working. Allowing me to work flexibly and in the ways that are best suited for my client at the time. Whether this is allowing them to lead more and find their own path in therapy, focusing on thought patterns and core beliefs or exploring the past more deeply to build an awareness of current concerns.

Stuff about me

I’m someone who greatly values freedom, the freedom we have to be ourselves, to explore this beautiful world and to experience as many things as we can. I love trying new things, attempting to learn new hobbies and activities. I think I’m on Chess and Snooker at the moment. Though I may not always stick with them, I get to try new things and see a part of life that people fall in love with and can appreciate why.

I have always been fascinated by the ways people act the way they do, be that in whole societies and how they respond to others, to the psychology of how we as humans all respond to certain things and have evolved into the people we are now. We all see and respond to the world differently and it’s a truly profound and rewarding to learn from the many unique viewpoints that exist in the world. I love working with people, learning about how they see the world and supporting them to live as fully as possible
